HARROW
This little, north facing back garden located in Harrow (NW of Greater London) required an uplift. The space had a small lawn in-between regular, straight concrete pathway and patio. A massive shed at the back of it was over dominating space. Due to very limited budget, both, the shed and the concrete couldn't be changed.
My idea was to soften the edges with plenty of perennials and introduce some curves into the design, which appear less aggressive to human eye than straight line and corners. The shed was painted black, to reduce its presence and make the plants in the front of it popping out. This simple trick created a contrast which draws viewer eye straight onto plants instead of dominating the space shed.
The existing lawn was weedy and patchy, but the biggest issue was that it wasn't levelled. Therefore, the ground was striped from the lawn and brand new turf was installed.
All plants - evergreens, bulbs and perennials here are planned to overlap seasonally to offer some interest in spring, summer, autumn and even in the winter where most of the gardens looks dull.

Here is the image of the space before the transformation. The cost of the changes, elements and plants didn't cross £700 total (excluding work and design costs).
